Fusionworks leaps from zero to growing 30% per year

By: GABRIEL PARRA BLESSING

On April 15, 2002, Guaynabo native and Fusionworks Inc. co-founder Leslie Luciano and his two partners took a leap. However, while many other stressed-out businessmen were contemplating doing just that—out of a window, as it was tax day, after all—theirs was a leap of faith, not despair.

With five employees, including its three founders—all of them former top executives of the database and software integration giant Oracle—faith was what it took to incorporate Fusionworks.

Nearly three years later, Fusionworks, now a full-fledged business and technology advisory firm, has a portfolio of more than 50 clients. Among them are such major public sector entities as the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority, the Highways & Transportation Department, and important private corporations such as Wendco, McDonald’s, Banco Popular, and Doral Financial.

Fusionworks guides its clients every step of the way from software selection and project management through training, administration, management, and the periodic updating of complex information systems.

The company has posted significant gains every year, both in terms of revenue—30% growth in each of the past two years—and in the number of clients, particularly those from the private sector, who now balance its substantial public sector involvement evenly.
“Recently, we added the pharmaceutical companies Pfizer and Wyeth to our portfolio, both of which acquired Phoenix Budget Solution to aid them in their budgeting processes,” Luciano revealed. He credits the strong demand for the products the company specializes in for its impressive growth. “The demand for the financial application Microsoft Great Plains has doubled over the past six months, [it has been] truly exponential, practically making Fusionworks the only company implementing financial applications in Puerto Rico.”

Microsoft Great Plains, Oracle E-Business Suite, Prophix Budget Solution, and Business Objects / Crystal Reports are just a few of the solutions Fusionworks implements for more than 50 clients in both Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic.
